2012 SafePlace Celebration
Presented by James Armstrong and Patti O'Meara
Thanks so much to all who made Celebration a huge success this year! We raised more than $330,000!
Celebration 2012 featured Special Guest Dan Rather, anchor and managing editor of AXS TV's Dan Rather Reports (Tuesdays, 8 p.m. ET on AXS TV).
Mr. Rather revisited his 1981 segment that aired on the documentary series 60 Minutes, which reported on the building of the Center for Battered Women's shelter. This shelter was the first custom designed shelter in the nation designed specifically for battered women and their children. In 1998, the Center for Battered Women merged with the Austin Rape Crisis Center to form SafePlace.
It was an honor to look back on SafePlace's historical roots with a legendary figure such as Dan Rather, who has been a part of so many historical events himself. This luncheon was both inspiring and moving as we reflected over the many years of SafePlace's work and the progress that we've made both as an agency and as a community.
Pictures from the event are on SafePlace's Flickr page.
