Celebration

The SafePlace Celebration is held annually in October during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.  Our 2013 luncheon will be held Thursday, October 17th at the Hilton downtown, and will feature Special Guest Victor Rivas Rivers.  Mr. Rivers is one of the most sought after speakers on Domestic Violence. Victor is a veteran film star (The Mask of Zorro, The Hulk, & The Distinguished Gentleman), best-selling author, renowned advocate for violence prevention, and the first Cub-born football player to land a stint with the Miami Dolphins.

He has achieved extraordinary success in numerous arenas. But given his violent upbringing, few of those achievements were ever likely. If not for a handful of individuals who were willing to take a stand on his behalf, Rivers doubts he would be alive today.

Celebrating the Survivor Spirit

This is an evening dedicated to the resiliency of survivors of sexual violence, offering a space for survivors and their allies to raise voices, share visions and celebrate healing.

Celebrating the Survivor Spirit (CSS) provides survivors and their allies an opportunity to come forward, meet and hear from each other and begin forming a community of survivors in the healing process.

A Day to Shine

A Day to Shine was founded in 2008 to bring awareness of the issue of dating abuse in our community.  In 2013, Expect Respect, a Program of SafePlace, was chosen as a beneficiary of the event.  Members of GETMAD: Girls Energized To Make A Difference star as models in the event’s fashion show, demonstrating their commitment to increase awareness about dating abuse among their peers.

Denim Day

Each April, in observance of  Sexual Assault Awareness & Prevention Month, SafePlace asks Austin-area businesses, organizations and individuals to take the pledge and wear Denim.   SafePlace brought the call to action to Austin in 2008 and since then thousands of Austin area employees have joined others across the world in wearing Denim on this day.

Men Rally For Change

Sponsored by SafePlace, Men Rally For Change engages school and community partners in an annual rally featuring lively speakers and outstanding performers, and works throughout the year to strengthen men’s involvement in ending violence against women.
