Holiday Program
The holidays are a difficult time for those we serve at SafePlace. The violence they have suffered, the issues of homelessness they face and a severe lack of resources make it extraordinarily difficult for them to celebrate the season. At SafePlace, we have two programs to fit the needs of our clients and help ensure they are able to enjoy the holidays: Sponsor a Family and Shop for the Shelter.
Sponsor a Family Program:
Our Sponsor a Family program allows a donor to be assigned to shop for holiday gifts for a family or individual who is a client at SafePlace. Sponsors are matched with families living in our transitional housing or families we serve that live out in the community. Each family includes at least one SafePlace client. They may be women, men or children who are victims of sexual or domestic abuse. Due to our strict privacy and confidentiality policies, you will not meet the family you are sponsoring, but please be assured that our Holiday Program Coordinator personally hands them their gifts after you’ve delivered them to us.
Shop for the Shelter Program:
Our Shop for the Shelter program fills the needs of our shelter clients and families who will not be able to participate in the Sponsor A Family program due to time constraints. All donations collected for this program are displayed in the shelter, and our shelter clients pick gifts for their family members staying with us – parents pick for their children, and the kiddos get to pick for their parents. The need for this program is great and all donations are much appreciated.
Volunteer Opportunities:
There are a number of volunteer opportunities during the holidays including warehouse volunteers to assist in gathering and organizing holiday gifts, gift receiver and distributor volunteers, and gift wrapping volunteers.
