Healing

Surviving violence in an intimate relationship can be very traumatic and healing from that trauma is a process that takes time. Survivors may experience depression, fear, self-blame, feelings of responsibility, difficulty concentrating and helplessness; as well as the physical injuries associated with violence. Because abusive relationships are about power and control, survivors often have difficulty taking control of their lives back, particularly if the abuser has managed to isolate them socially or economically.

SafePlace provides services and programs to assist survivors in healing from their abuse or assault.  From counseling to supportive housing these services prepare survivors to re-build their lives and lead happy, fulfilling lives - free of violence and abuse.

In 2009

  • 1,495 survivors received individual and group counseling.
  • 602 children participated in therapeutic and fun activities.
  • 133 families lived in the Supportive Housing Program apartment community.
  • 63 families participated in the Passages program.
  • 740 elementary, middle and high school students participated in individual counseling and/or support groups.
