SafePlace Deaf Services

SafePlace serves anyone suffering from the bad experiences of sexual abuse, rape and/or domestic violence. This is for any women, children, teens and men who have experienced violence now or in the past. 

Be careful about who may see you on the SafePlace website. If someone you don’t trust enters the room and may see what website you are seeing, click the “Quick Escape” button on the web page. This will help protect your privacy and take you quickly to the Austin American-Statesman website. No other eyes when you are on the website.

Deaf Services Program

SafePlace practices airtight confidentiality. The Deaf Services staff are culturally Deaf and fluent in ASL. Deaf, hard-of-hearing or Deaf-Blind victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or rape can get free and confidential services in Austin/Travis County such as:

  • Counseling
  • SafeParenting classes
  • Case management and advocacy services
  • Community trainings

Counseling

Counseling (short-term one-on-one counseling and a support group) is for women, men, and children who have been abused by a partner or spouse or have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. 

SafeParenting Classes

Classes meet once a week for 12 weeks. The classes teach parenting skills and discuss how domestic violence affects the whole family.

Case Management

SafePlace also offers case management and advocacy to Deaf victims of sexual/domestic violence. SafePlace may be able to help with:

  • Planning for your safety
  • Getting connected to services with other agencies
  • Completing Crime Victims Compensation (CVC) applications
  • Going with you to court or the hospital  
  • Basic items like food, diapers, soap, shampoo, linens and school supplies

Community Trainings

Free workshops in the community about domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, sexual harassment and healthy relationships are available for anyone.
