Moving Forward in Challenging Times

Exploring Our Collective Capacity for
Trauma-Informed Service Delivery

A National Conference Proceedings Document

In July 2011, SafePlace, a sexual assault and domestic violence center in Austin, Texas, convened a national conference of invited participants to discuss how victim services, mental health, and substance abuse provider agencies can work together to improve access to trauma-informed healing services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The proceedings document found here includes both the content and the substance of formal presentations, small and large workgroup discussions, and a set of recommendations made by conference stakeholders.

Key stakeholder groups represented at this conference were survivors of domestic and sexual violence; people with histories of mental health and substance abuse/addiction issues; researchers; advocates; family members; and mental health, substance abuse and victim service professionals.

Funding for this conference was made possible (in part) by 1H13SM059749-01 from SAMHSA. The views expressed in written conference materials or publications and by speakers and moderators do not necessarily reflect the official policies of the Department of Heath and Human Services; nor does mention of trade names, commercial practices, or organizations imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.
